Bridging Resilience -trust & transparency pre- & post- climate events
In a recent gathering across municipalities for our coastal resilience project, we discussed (among other things) the important role that bridge-builders (aka 'bridgers') - trusted institutions or individuals that can work across contexts - serve in climate resilience and adaptation.
Participants observed that these people and organizations can carry knowledge across institutional boundaries, help interpret different systems, and build relationships over time.
Trust and transparency as key ingredients that bridgers bring have been recurring themes of these convenings.
This week it was noted that coordination across levels of government can work particularly well during emergencies, when information is being actively shared and there is a clear imperative to collaborate.
We wondered how we might create some of that same openness and coordination before an issue becomes a crisis.
The is conversation (and the question) provides a further case study that could connect to the two essays I previously wrote about fields and the context of working in fields (and the role of the 'bridgers' in moving information and wisdom across contexts).
